I just couldn’t get into it. I read the entire story because I kept thinking it would get better but it didn’t. The story line was easy enough.. Rich , handsome and well to do hero hiding from who he is takes off and ends up having a one night stand with a pure country girl from a crazy family whos trying to change her image to the townspeople. *sigh*. He Leaves town due to family emergency not knowing he got her pregnant then thinks about her non stop for the next 8 months??? I completely didn’t buy it. I didn’t feel the chemistry between them at all. He seemed decent but her character was too over the top ‘country’ to be likeable or believe he would fall for her. Ending was predictable. I love the story plots of the man realizing everyone choosing his life path isnt working then falling for small town girls but this was terrible. Only redeemable chracter was her mom. Even being free it wasn’t worth it.

Maya had spent her whole life trying to measure up to the people of Big Falls, Oklahoma, never really fitting in no matter what she did or how good she was. It was her birthday, 29 years old and still a virgin! It did not help that her mother ran a saloon.
Caleb had been in politics for a while, it was ingrained into him, and now it was time to run for a seat in the Senate, but he was not sure it was what or how he wanted to live his life, he was already a millionaire three times over. He never knew if people liked him for himself or what he could do for them. He borrowed the gardener’s old beat up pickup and set out to lose himself, only to have a flat tire in the pouring rain. He stops off at the OK Corral, a saloon in Big Falls,where he meets Maya, a beautiful woman who knows nothing about him,but seems to like him anyway. I’m a little conflicted on this one. May be spoilers ahead. I just didn’t get the chemistry between them. Love at first sight is one thing but enduring love is a lot harder. They spent one night (part of one to be exact) together and he spent the next 8 months thinking about her. Why didn’t he try to contact her again then? The author tried to make her a country bumpkin who was trying to make the town accept her bc of her crazy family but I didn’t buy that either. Her mother runs a bar and mourns for her husband who was a bigamist. What? How do you mourn for that? The characters were not just shallow but hypocritical. The mother chastises the use of foul language but she doesn’t go to church with her daughter, again, she runs a bar. The mother is hypercritical of one daughter that is a lingerie model in LA like she is a stripper or something (not that there is anything wrong with being a stripper, not judging here), but she runs a bar and has 5 illegitimate children. You can call it a tavern all day long but it is a bar. The author tried to make the H sound like some sort of big wig from Tulsa (indication here is that Tulsa is the big city) sorry, its not. Maybe Dallas or Houston but Tulsa is a very small city, great place to raise a family but it is small. I really wanted to like this book but the writing was really dry and not engaging in the least so I believe I will pass on the rest of the stories although Serena sounds interesting to me.
